Summary

General Knowledge: Social Media

All of our children at Wingrove Primary are all underage and should not have their own accounts on any social media platform in any form. This includes YouTube. If your child has access to social media, it must be under your direct supervision in order to keep them safe.

Age restrictions for each social media platform:
- Discord: the minimum age is 13 years old
- Facebook: the minimum age is 13 years old
- Instagram: the minimum age is 13 years old
- Snapchat: the minimum age is 13 years old
- TikTok: the minimum age is 13 years old
- WhatsApp: the minimum age is 13 years old
- X (formerly Twitter): the minimum age is 13 years old
- YouTube: the minimum age is 13 years old

For online gaming:
Fortnite: the minimum age is 13 years old
- Minecraft: the recommended age is 8 years old
- Roblox: there is no set minimum age set by Roblox. They automatically restrict access depending on the age of the player (your child's profile). These restrictions are lifted if the account age is set to 13 years old. Ensure you know the age your child's profile is set to.

What do I do if my child is or has an unpleasant experience on social media?

The most important step is to let your child know they are safe with you and not to tell them off. When they are ready to talk, use the TED approach:

Talk - ask your child what has happened
Explain - ask them to explain what they saw
Describe - ask them to describe what they saw.

Please remember we, at Wingrove Primary School, are always available to help you too.
